Oooh, oooohh!

The new Harry Potter book is going to be titled “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince”.
JK Rowling says the Prince is neither Harry nor Voldemort…sooo exciting!

I do hope Harry’s snapped out of his funk. Here’s my theory, Harry will become the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher at Hogwarts in his final year (if he survives). Much better than being an Auror in my opinion, and Snape will be furious.

No pub. date yet, sigh.

Progress

We’re hard at work trying to come up with an action plan for the folks at the library. By an action plan, I mean a plan to get the people at work to ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING. This is a criticism that doesn’t apply across the board, of course, but it is a common enough problem that it needs to be addressed. I think people just need to be given things to do with an expected time of completion (and consequences for non-completion). I hope we can start implementing it this week as I am looking forward to seeing it in action.

On the game front, I finally got my Amazon in Diablo to 30th level (and got Freezing Arrow, tres cool!). I’m going to go back and play the prior board through again to buff up a few more levels before taking on Diablo. I’m tired of dying.

I also stole one of Tom’s Sims and moved him into my house. Tee hee.

Sunday thoughts

I dropped Tom off this morning to play paintball with some boys from his work. He wanted to go, but he was so cranky about getting up and getting his stuff together. I don’t know why he does this, runs himself ragged during the weekend. I think he thinks that if he can fill up all of his free time with “fun stuff” then he’s making up for being at work.
I don’t feel that I need to fill every free minute with activity. I try to enjoy doing what I am doing instead of always looking for the most fun thing to be doing at any one time. Maybe I’m also influenced by the fact that I enjoy my job and I can see how I am making a difference at my work. I didn’t think job satisfaction would be that important, but I guess it can make up for a lot of other things.

The terrible thing about vacations…

is that you wish you were on them all the time. Had a fabby time seeing all the boss friends and family, but I wish I could have had longer in each place and seen more people.
Maybe it’s the wedding thing, but I have been thinking about my life and my choices. I think I’m in the right career. I know I’m with the right person, but I still feel like I wasted a lot of time getting to this point. Things are happening with my family (and Tom’s family) that I would like to be more a part of. I know I should be more fiscally secure right now, and it’s a constant struggle just to stay even. I would like to proceed with things, make long term plans (or even just be more flexible) and I’m nailed down by my responsibilities. I can’t imagine what it must be like not to have to worry about where the next paycheck is going. I have good intentions, but I find following them to be the hardest part. And the devil is definitely in the details.
Oh well, back to work, gotta keep those books moving around.

Back in the saddle

Back at work. We’re doing computer stuff today. All the computer gurus are here and we are getting our databases up to date and working again (finally). It’s a relief to know that these things can be fixed.

Traveling post

We had a nice time seeing family today. We had lunch at Old Country Buffet with my grandma. Then we had dinner at the cottage with my parents and Aunt Alice and Uncle Floyd. Now we’re at home watching My Neighbor Totoro with my mom and dad. Off to bed soon, then on to the wedding tomorrow.

The two sweetest word in the English Language are..

“Case dismissed”

I love Captain District Attorney! (He really is a Captain, too). We got to the courthouse, went through the metal detector thingy, saw ALL the other people. (Which confirms the theory that Fayetteville is the source of all bad drivers. Hey, I can be smug. I got caught with a 1 month expired license. It wasn’t a driving offense, just a paperwork one.) We stood in line to talk to Captain District Attorney. He looked at our citation, asked if all we had was an expired license (which we did), asked if I had a current one (which I did), and dismissed the case (hooray!). We had to hang around then for about an hour and a half for the judge to come in and make it official (which he did), and then we left (whew!). I have definitely learned my lesson (this time), but I would have liked to see some of the real cases. They were all misdemeanors, mostly traffic offenses, and I’ve never seen how a real court works. I never get picked for jury duty :P. Well, no jury in this case anyway, just the judge and about 500 lawyers (I may be exaggerating). A fair number of the folks came with their defense lawyers, and the lawyers hung out waiting for the cases to come up. It was interesting and I could appreciate it more once I knew I was off the hook.

So, then back home so Mr. Tom could get some sleep and I could do some more eyelets and now to work. Tomorrow’s going to be a long day, but when it’s over, we’re free!

Who Needs Sleep

Not me.

Busy day today. Had a kids fest. this moring (reschedule from Fri.) then got to work to spend 1 1/2 hours on the phone with Ralph the computer wonder guy. He did get out computer working and as it turns out, we have a bad hard drive on our catalog computer. Then off home to get Mr. Tom. Dropped him off, ran some work errands, and now I’m back at work checking e-mail. Then back home for SCA A&S night (which I would cancel, but I promised some folks we would be doing it tonight). Then out again at 1:30 to get Tom, then back home.

Traffic court tomorrow. I hope the judge doesn’t give me a big fine. It would be a bit much right now.

Two (and one half) more days till we get on our way. I can’t wait.

Counting days

Talked to the Greensburg folks last night. I can’t wait to see them.
We’re busy today at work. It must be time for papers in summer school as I’ve had lots of reference requests. People have trouble understanding that we are not an academic library and therefore do not carry extensive holdings of scholarly journals. Distance learning has a long way to go to catch up to the classroom experience. I see so many frustrated and confused DL students here. They want to get an education, and that’s commendable, but no one has bothered to teach them how to do research and write a paper. If I hear one more person tell me that they don’t “get” Dewey Decimal, I’m gonna scream. (And they ask what we go to library school for, sheesh). Actually for sheer snarkiness, the spouses are worse than the soldiers. There is a real culture of riding on the coattails here. It’s very interesting.

Oh well, better stop sniping for now.
