Whew!

Art Attack is officially over. The weather held (although it was overcast all day). We had about 250 folks (a good turnout and about what we expected). Everyone seemed to have a good time. Everyone who was scheduled to come came and everyone worked very hard. Probably too hard. Next year we’re getting more volunteers. Of course, every time I came into the library I got hit by a person with an involved reference question. I definitely need to train our staff to handle more reference. But even with training, there was only one person working. We need to work on our staffing. There was no need for one person to be alone in order for us to hold a special event. I’m going to put this into my event report.

I made an underdress last night. I think it will help with the clevage issue. Now I have to go home and do more eyelets. I’m bringing the BBC Pride and Prejudice with me to watch while I sew. That should take up enough time. At least when I’m done I know I’ll have a sturdy product that I’ll be able to wear for events.

4 days and counting for the big PA trip. Woo Hoo!

Eyelet heaven

I am the eyelet queen, and it is it is a glorious thing to be the eyelet queen!

Thirty six metal eyelets up the back of this ferschluggener dress and I decide to bind them all in by hand. Aargh aargh. I know those medieval people had WAY more free time than we do. Oh well, I am 1/6th of the way there.

National day of mourning tomorrow. I’m sorry Prez Reagan died, but having had Alzheimer’s in our family I know that it’s an ineviatable thing. His family is lucky that they had friends and support to help with his illness.

Working away again. Gotta get back to the desk and make a map and some masks for our program on Saturday. Wish me luck and pray for good weather. I may have to sing the Mr. Sun song.

Sweaty

Got out in the sunshine with the kiddoes today. We had an author visit for SRC. She was very good with the kids and they were great! Very attentive. She read her book. We did some coloring and then we sent the little kids over to play with Ms. Dorothy while the big kids did some question and answer. Good questions. Then we went outside for some games. Tag games are not good with this group. They hit HARD and tend to trample little and slow kids. Running games are good, tho’. I’m going to have to find some more cooperative things for them to do. They are very competitive, but also very chaotic, a tough combo for determining winners.

Finished the big sewing on the red dress last night. I want to bind some of the seams and sew in the eyelets, but that’s detail stuff. Results were good. It’s a little revealing, so I may make an underdress for modesty. I’m hoping I have enough white fabric on hand to make a shift in the same cut as the dress. I want to preserve the line of the neck, just bring it in a little.

Gotta run and pick up Tom, then back to work for more meetings. Yay!

Hungry

Urgh. I’m starving. I had lunch at 1:00 and I’m not out of here until 9 tonight. I have to remember to get some snacks and keep them in the break room.

Work is work. We’re getting ready for the Art Attack this weekend. I’m coordinating it, which is a big job. But it looks like things are coming together OK.

I’m working on a dress with the new McCall’s medieval line pattern. It makes up more or less like a cotehardie. Princess seams and laces up the back. It’s not too modern and I’m willing to sacrifice some authenticity for fit. The pattern is pretty wasteful of fabric, so I used the remainder of that red bolt I got from Wally’s for 1$. The drape on that is amazing. It came out good so far. I haven’t put on the sleeves yet, and that will really determine how tight is is in the bodice. I think it will be OK. I have lots of scrap left over. I should make a hat for later. Right now I’m planning on wearing it to Ian’s wedding, so I won’t necessarily need a hat for that, but for the SCA I will. I wish I had more of the red. I’d like to make something for Tom. I did get a gold colored fabric with the same type of feel. Maybe I can make him something with that and use the red for panels and trim.

Harry Potter

So, we did see Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban last night. I have to agree with the critics that the film is both darker and funnier than the preceeding two films. I didn’t find the new look to be as jarring as some of the people I was with. I loved Lupin and Sirius Black (but who can be disappionted with Gary Oldman?) The kids do look older, and the teens I was with felt that they looked significantly older than 13, but it didn’t bother me. Buckbeak was great and the Whomping Willow makes a great re-appearance. I think the film would be more confusing to someone who isn’t familiar with the franchise, but I had no trouble following the story. Overall a big thumbs up from me. Prisoner is my favorite book in the series to date and I wasn’t disappointed.

One week

Good game last night. We wrapped up the chapter. Our faithful Marines were killed by an evil mind flayer (I know, that’s redundant). Tom’s character, Tyr, really saved the day. He was the only one of us with enough versatility in abilities to take out the bad guy when he levitated to the ceiling. Way to go, Tyr. We also leveled (10th level, baby), which is not a bad thing. I took my first level of Sword of Righteousness. I now have almost all of the requirements needed to be a Saint, woo hoo! (As I always say, you have to have goals).

In the real world, I’m working, Tom’s playing with the SCA. We’re meeting with Roland and some of the yout’s tonight for a meeting/dinner. If we get done in time, I want to go see Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

We’re getting ready for our big trip to Ian’s wedding (which reminds me, I need to e-mail him). It will be cool to see the fam. and friends for a while. Before then, two Summer Reading sessions and Art Attack for the library. Tom works his long week and I have a court date (aargh!). Just a traffic violation, but still kind of scary. Here’s a word of advice to all my driving friends. Don’t mess up driving on a military post. They send you to federal court and won’t just take your money.

That’s all for now.

Running around

Not much time today for blogging, I have to go and do a storytime, then back home for some sewing before we leave for the game at Charlie’s tonight. Busy, busy, busy!
