Reason 3,565 I love the Woobs

This is a little hard story to read.  It was certainly hard to live, so I’m going to put it behind a cut.  It’s a story of my very kind Wooby and an injured animal.  If you want to read more, go ahead and click.

So we wound up taking two separate cars to gaming last night.  And as we were driving home, we got about five miles from the house (still on the highway) and I noticed a dog struggling away from the traffic onto the side of the road.  Obviously some car in front of us had hit it, but they hadn’t stopped.  I hate to see an animal like that, so I flashed my lights and the Woobs (who was in the truck in front of me) pulled over at the shopping center.  I told him about the dog (I was pretty soggy at this point) and he had me jump in the truck and we went back to look.

The dog was right where I had seen him and he was pretty bad, no blood or anything, but his hind end was pretty well crushed.  We stopped on the side and put on the hazards.  Then the Woobs got out to check on the dog.  It was very docile and quiet, but he wouldn’t let me get out of the car to come over by it. So he sat and held the dog’s collar while I called the police.  The highway patrol answered very quickly, and we all waited together until animal control came.  It wasn’t a nice experience.  But the Woobs was just a champion through the whole thing.  He sat and soothed the poor dog (he even put his shirt around it to keep it warm).  Unfortunately the animal control guy wasn’t very optimistic (there was a lot of damage and the dog’s back was probably broken), but at least he said they would contact the owners even if they had to put the dog down.

It’s really too bad when a Good Samartian impulse turns out like this, but it really shows the character of someone like the Woobs that he can go through something like that with calm grace.  He’s a wonderful person and I love him more every day.  I, myself, am a squishy marshmallow.

I made sure to give both the Woobs and the cats some extra snuggles last night. We’re OK and watching some upbeat stuff on Animal Planet to cheer ourselves up.
