Had a nice day with the little sister and the Woobs today. We went to the flea markets in Fayetteville. And then we had dinner at Myabi and came home to play Wii. Not epically exciting, but a nice day all around.

Sick ol’Wooby and some Transformer writings
And so the Woobs is sick with my old cold. He’s been a good sport about it so far, but now I’m trying to get him to settle into bed and rest. Sleeping really helped me, but he says he hates “wasting time” sleeping. Such a man.
I’ve also been doing a bit of writing. It’s totally all Transformers fanfiction, but that’s what I enjoy, so that’s what I do. I’ve got a link here to my latest endeavors. STORIES
It’s an exercise in writing to spec. The stories have to be short and must address whatever the topic of the week happens to be. Sometimes there are specific characters and settings to use. I’m generally pleased with the outcome and I hope it will lead to me resuming some of my longer projects.
Will trade for rain
It did rain, quite dramatically actually, but now it’s done. The rising barometer might be helping my stuffed sinuses clear up a bit, but I rather think it’s the meds I took about an hour ago. Sick day again tomorrow. I’d like to just kick this so I can get back to work full time.
We will be taking a break from NERO for the next two months at least. Events at the recent game have caused us to reconsider our involvement. I have been assured that what happened is SOP for the game and “it happens to everyone” therefore I will not be complaining on the official forums or lodging any comments with anyone beyond the folks we have already talked to. If it’s part of the culture of the game and we misunderstood the tone then the problem is more a disconnect between our expectations and reality than any problem that can be fixed by agitating for changes to be made. Like I said before, it’s too bad because we REALLY like the people who run the game and were enjoying playing, but we have to do what’s right for us.
I was able to clear a fair number of outstanding little bills with the recent tax return (Thanks Dad!) so we’re looking at a lot happier Spring than the recent lean few months.
Also, I’m re-reading A Walk in the Woods preparatory to reviewing it for a blog. Fine book, definitely stands up to repeated reading, much like another fave, Last Chance to See. What is it about snarky environmental tracts that makes them so much fun?
Ok, off to bed.
Sexy sick voice
Everyone sing along, “Smelly cat, smelly cat, what are they feeding you?”
So the sickness has settled into my chest and is causing periodic raspy coughing. It’s annoying, but not catastrophic. Tomorrow night is D&D night. I’m going to try to get us out a little early so we don’t both wind up wrecked and tired all weekend.
Weekend projects include routine truck service, sewing room cleanup, laundry and dishes. Fun times.
A zombie vegetarian is always looking for GRAAINS
I’m feeling a little punky today. The Woobs was sick last week and we ran into a few ill people over the weekend and I think the germs may be trying to get a toehold.
We were busy last week and this weekend getting ready for LARPing. The game mostly went well, but we had a bad incident near the end where some of the players decided to gang up on Tom. It’s discouraging, because we felt we were getting along OK with folks, but sometimes you never know what someone is really thinking in a situation like this.
So we’re back at work tomorrow (probably) and it will probably make a nice break from the imaginary life drama.
Writin’ an entry
We’re back from a NERO weekend. We are a bit tired because we don’t get much sleep at the game (9 hours over two days) and we work really hard. So we’re going to be hitting the sack earlier than usual for a few days.
Work goes on. Tiernen has a new assignment at his job. He’ll be doing phone support for the other technicians, so we were out tonight getting him a phone and headset for the office.
The holidays should be fun. We’re meeting the little sis’s new BF over Thanksgiving. We’ve already “met” him online, but this will be our chance to do so face-to-face. He seems nice so far.
Here we are in our Halloween costumes. We dressed our Rock Band characters up and then dressed like them. It was fun.
Weary after a long weekend
We had a busy weekend at foam sword madness (NERO). Fun was had, but we missed a bunch of the people who couldn’t be there and came home tired, tired, tired! So we took today off for recuperation. This will require better planning in the future. I don’t want to use up all my sick time and goodwill at work.
So this week will entail unpacking and some housecleaning. We’re not due to be busy again until next weekend (hopefully). The rest will be nice.
End of a busy weekend
After several weeks of various hermit-like behaviors, we bust out this weekend with lots of fun times. We played the end of our Second Darkness campaign with the D&D boyz. We’ll be starting up something new on Fridays after a little hiatus. It was a good ending. None of the PC’s died and we all got to have our crowning moments of awesome in taking out the bad Drow chicas.
Saturday was long but fun with a birthday party and a nice game of 7th Sea with the Greensboro friends and we met some new and awesome folks there.
Sunday we slept in and then cleaned up and made dinner for our visitors, Joanna and Armando. Food was tasty and they all got to talk ghosties while I did computer stuff.
We’re back at work tomorrow and are planning a few days of work around the house and projects to get ready for the Nero LARP in September.
For the benefit of Mr. Kite
Or more like my ‘rents who compain that I don’t post enough. Here’s another one.
Things here are still pretty quiet. We got an impressive afternoon thunderstorm today that cooled things off for a while. The Woobs and I played Rock Band until my hand and voice were tired.
I am enjoying the challenge of singing and playing at the same time, but I really should be working on raising my skill so that I can play our last few gigs on Hard and finally beat the game. I have many videogames I have never beaten, although I like playing them. This is an interesting contrast to the way I approach books (try to get through them as quickly as possible). I dunno what it is about the videogame experience that makes me take my time.
We will be paying a visit to the folks who did our carpet (general contracting type folks) to get measurements and a quote for the backyard fence. Oh, and here are some room-in-progress pictures, for those who are interested in looking at paint.
Keeping busy in the heat
It’s been crazy uncomfortably hot here. So we’re doing inside projects. We have the future child’s room mostly complete. Just a few cosmetic adjustments to go. Next step is to get the backyard fenced in.
