Four day weekends RAWK!

Due to a strange alignment of the planets I actually got to have (and enjoy) a four day weekend this past weekend. Mr. Phil worked for me over Sat. and Sun. to make up for some of the time he was off for his TDY (that’s Army-ese for Temporary Duty, means being away from your regular job for something official). So I’m in a good mood and pretty well rested. I spent a lot of time watching movies and playing Suikoden 2 on the PS.

Now, back to work.

Fitting muslin quest

I got a bunch of nice fabric with my X-mas Joann’s money and I need to make a fitting muslin. The problem with this is that it is a two person project and both people need to be fairly adept with sewing stuff. I’m thinking about proposing doing an A&S workshop so that a bunch of us can work together on this. The instructions I liked are on this site. http://http://www.cottesimple.com/fem_silhouette/curved/curved_1.html

I want to make a “versatile” gown for summer wear. We’ll see if it happens.

Hi and a shameless plug

Hi there. I’ve been lurking on this community for a while. I’m impressed with the level of dedication and creativity shown by the women here. I started playing back in the days of the Red Book and I find 3ed to be a great new direction for D&D.

I’m posting to plug my little sister’s CafePress store. She does great gryhon art and has a really cute 2005 calendar. Check it out at http://www.cafepress.com/tyrrlin

SHOP!

Gotta boost my lil’ sister’s shop on CafePress. She’s always been the artist in the family. Check out her cute gryphon art. (www.cafepress.com/tyrrlin) You can see more of her work on Elfwood. http://www.elfwood.com and search for Tyrrlin.

Nude Year!!

We had a mellow New Year’s weekend with much vegging at home and some gaming. We are making many plans for the upcoming year including preparing for SCA events and starting (and re-starting) gaming campagins. It’s good to look ahead. I’m looking forward to more time to spend with Tom. I hope he’s looking forward to spending more time with me.

No days off for YOU!

I thought I was going to have today off to spend with Moom, but he got a cold while staying with his parents and decided to wait until he felt better to come north.
I was still going to take the day off and lounge at home, but they are trying out the phone and computer connections for our work project next week and Phil’s (predictably) not going to be here to suss it out for me.
So, here I am, at work on my day off *AARRGGGHH*. It’s the getting up early I object to. I’ll be done by 11:00, but I had to get up at 6:30 to go in with Tom, or not have the car and be stuck here all day anyway.
We NEED another vehicle.

Ice and updates

We got through the holiday with a minimum of fuss. Long weekend, including holidays and days taken for days off that the libray is already closed. Say what you like about the Uncle. He’s a good boss.

We got hit by a big sleet and snow storm on Sunday (starting LATE Sunday night). The ice is still around, so the post is closed, except I didn’t know that and went into work today like a big dummy *AARGH*. So, I’m getting some stuff done and leaving at 1:00. I don’t mind being in the library by myself. Actually, I’m reminded of the line from Clerks. “This job would be great if it weren’t for the customers.”

We have kind of a dead week, then back into big computer projects and lots of weeding. Phil will be gone again in Jan. I hope he remembers to put in for me to get full time hours before he goes.

MOOM

We had a nice visit with our friend Duane (Moom) Mumma. He stopped by on his way to Fla. to spend the holidays with his parents. He’ll be back on the 29th to hang for a day on his way back to Philly, yay Moom!
Getting ready for the hol’s. We cleaned up the house a bit for Moom, now we’re going to go back through, really clean, organize and decorate. We’re having folks over for dinner on the 24th, so we have to be ready for that.

Star signs and visits to church!

Good news!
Tom has a new job. He’ll be working as the Distribution Coordinator for our weekly entertainment/local interest paper. It’s called Up and Coming Weekly (such an appropriate name if you REALLY know Tom ;P ) This came through over the past week. We saw the ad on Saturday or Sunday, called the place Monday, faxed off the resume Monday, they called him Tuesday, had the interview Wednesday, they offered the job on Wednesday, he left AIT Wednesday and started this morning (Thursday). Whew!
On the plus side, it’s an 8:30 – 5 job, no weekends. The salary they are offering is a bit more than he was making at AIT. No phones and evil computers, and apparently folks there are pretty friendly.
On the minus side, not much. It bolloxes up my schedule a lot less than the 2nd shift job did and he’s going to need to use the car for work a few days a week. The actual work is a bit of a mystery still, and he’s going to be riding herd on a bunch of one-day a week contractors, that could get messy.
In all, we’re considering it to be a good move.
There’s no way to know why things happen (in a cosmic sense), but I think it might have helped that we went to a nice pre-x-mas service at our friends’ church on Sunday last. I know we have both been praying for this kind of break. Although, Tom’s horoscope in the same paper he’s now working for said that the New Moon in his 10th house makes this the right time for job changes…go figure.
Sometimes the stars do come into alignment!
